This weekend is a good time to stock up on school and hurricane supplies.
Virginia’s sales tax holiday on clothing, footwear, school supplies, hurricane preparedness items and EnergyStar and WaterSense products is Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9. Purchases of eligible items will be sales tax exempt during the holiday period. Eligible items include school supplies that are $20 or less per item; clothing and footwear that is $100 or less per item; portable generators that are $1,000 or less per item; gas-powered chainsaws that are $350 or less per item; chainsaw accessories that are $60 or less per item; other hurricane preparedness items $60 or less per item; and EnergyStar or WaterSense products purchased for non-commercial home or personal use that are $2,500 or less per item. School supply lists are available on each school’s website in Orange and Madison counties. Orange County students returned to school Wednesday while Madison County students return to school Tuesday, Aug. 11.
