Four teens involved in Rt. 20 crash

One fatality confirmed

Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon near Burr Hill.

According to law enforcement, a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling northbound on Rt. 20 near Rows Mill Road when it crossed the centerline and struck a 2016 Ford F-150. The driver of the Jetta died at the scene. Four passengers in the vehicle were transported to area hospitals for serious injuries. The driver of the F-150 was also transported with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

An email sent out from Orange County High School confirmed four students were involved in the accident. Counselors are other support resources will be available Friday for any student or staff member who needs assistance.

The roadway was expected to be closed for several hours. Traffic was being diverted at Rt. 20 and Grasty Gold Mine or Burr Hill Road as well a at Rt. 20 and Zoar Road/Gold Dale Road.

According to eyewitness reports, medivac helicopters landed at Locust Grove Elementary and Primary Schools to transport patients. Buses were held for dismissal until emergency personnel cleared the area.
