To the editor,
We wish to express our gratitude to all of the businesses and individuals who donated to the Katherine “Kaci” Daniel 4-H Endowed Fund through the livestock auctions at the Orange County Fair and the Madison County Fair this summer. The generous support from the community will go far in supporting 4-H in both counties, and gives an idea of just how special Kaci was to these communities.
Kaci Daniel was a lifelong Madisonian, and self-proclaimed “4-H-er for Life.” She participated as a youth in Madison, earned the status of 4-H All Star, and then served as the 4-H agent in Orange County for 24 years directly after graduating from Virginia Tech. Her love of all things 4-H and the wonderful things it can do for our youth showed in her dedication to her job. Kaci passed away last August from cancer after spending her summer attending as many fairs, camps, and 4-H events as her health allowed.
Those making donations through the fairs include:
• EverGRO
• Glenburnie Farm
• H&H Excavating
• Henshaw & Sons Farm
• Knight Family
• Marshall Dairy
• Rockingham Cooperative
• Senterfitt Farms
• Virginia Cattle Co.
We also greatly appreciate the efforts of and support from the staff of the Madison and Orange Extension Offices, the Orange County Fair Board, and the Madison County Fair Board. Both fairs included lovely honors to Kaci during their fair weeks.
The endowment fund was created by her friends and colleagues and will benefit 4-H programming in Orange and Madison Counties in perpetuity. Further donations can always be made through those county extension offices, or online at https://madison.ext.vt.edu/get-involved/kaci-daniel.html.
Thanks again from Kaci’s family.
Scott Daniel, Dennis & Nan Coppedge, and Chris, Laura, Sam, & Hannah DeBoer
