Madison County students will now get into home games free.
In May, school board members discussed making the change. Previously, students and spectators in the Bull Run District paid $8 for varsity football and $7 for all other sports. The change will allow all Madison County Public School students, primary through high school, to attend games for free.
“I’m firmly in support of [this],” school board member Greg Martz said. “Having a healthy student body is important.”
The change was officially approved in June and will currently be for the 2026-27 school year with the possibility of continuing it into the future. School board member Mitch Dickey said approving the free admission for just one year now will allow the program to be evaluated.
“We want to see how it goes,” he said. “The idea is we’ll do it going forward, but since we don’t fully understand the financial impact, this is only for one year.”
Sports games, aside from golf which began Monday, will start next week. Football will have two scrimmages before the first regular season home game Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. versus Buckingham.
