Reading programs to begin

Madison Library planning slate of events

The Madison County Library is once again hosting the summer reading program. Sign-ups will begin Tuesday, May 26 from 4 until 7 p.m. Get a bag with free books, a calendar of shows planned here at the library for June and July, and information about spinning the prize wheel for rising first graders through rising 6th graders. Get these goodies along with a few library-related items your child will enjoy. Every child can choose a free book to keep from the boxes of giveaways with each visit to the library. All children are invited to attend shows and read to library friendly therapy dogs. The dogs will be at the library to listen to children read each Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. in June and July.

On Wed. June 3rd at 11 am, the line up of performances will begin with Wes Iseli’s Magic Show! On Fri., June 12th at 11 am, Bright Star Theater will perform the classic, “Peter Pan.”  On Thurs., June 18th at 11 am, come and enjoy “Dinosaur Adventures” presented by Joe Pipik and Goodlife Puppets. On Tues., June 23rd at 11 am, park rangers from Lake Anna will bring real snakes and teach us about them in the program, “Snakes Alive.” On Thurs., June 25th at 11 am, we will host an Instrument Petting Zoo where all participants can try out ways to make music with percussion and stringed instruments. On Thurs., July 2nd at 11 am, Science Heroes will engage us in an interactive science presentation entitled, “Digging It.” On Tues., July 7th at 11 am, Sensei Ron Collins will demonstrate Taiko Drumming for our library audience. Then we will participate as drummers ourselves! On Fri., July 17th at 2 pm, Uncle Henry returns with “The Nature of Things in the Wind.” We will observe and learn about real animals and objects found in nature. On Fri., July 24th at 11 am, Bright Star Theater returns with the informative and entertaining play, “Dinosaur Academy.” On Thurs., July 30th at 10 am Rainbow Puppets are bringing some small and huge puppets to wow at their “Really Big Dinosaur Show.” To conclude the summer reading program, on Fri., July 31st from 10 am until 12 pm, their will be the blow out on the lawn of the library with water slides and snow cones (and lots more)!

Fun prizes can be earned during all of June and July by Madison County children who attend school or are homeschooled (rising 1st through rising 6th grade). Children can spin the wheel of prizes (starting Monday, June 1st through Sat., Aug. 1st) one time for each hour of reading (maximum of 2 spins per week). Hours will not be carried over from week to week this year. If a child is not yet school-age, but has listened to a book at home, he/she can choose a small prize from the treasure box.

See you and your child at the Madison County Library this summer!
