An Ohio man will remain behind bars after contacting an Orange County minor online.
James Randall Mitchell, 28, of Cincinnati, OH pleaded guilty in Orange County Circuit Court last week to two counts of causing a minor under the age of 15 to perform child pornography. He was sentenced to 40 years with 28 suspended. Upon his release, he will be on probation for five years and must register as a sex offender.
Per a plea agreement, three counts of proposing sex with a minor via a computer were nol prossed, as were a charge of inciting the production of child pornography and a charge of conspiracy to destroy evidence of a felony offense.
According to law enforcement, in October the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a report that an adult male was having inappropriate contact with a minor through online platforms. An investigation revealed that in February 2024 Mitchell was targeting an Orange County juvenile via online gaming. He was arrested in Ohio in November and extradited to Virginia to face charges. He has been held at the Central Virginia Regional Jail while awaiting trial.
According to Ohio news reports, Mitchell was arrested in 2023 in Delhi Township for exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl.
