A multi-vehicle accident occurred Sunday, claiming one life and snarling traffic for hours.
According to Virginia State Police, law enforcement responded to a five vehicle crash at 4:49 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the intersection of U.S. 29 and Wolftown-Hood Road in Madison County. Four vehicles were traveling southbound on U.S. 29 when they slowed or stopped for a red light. A fifth vehicle was unable to stop and rear-ended one of the vehicles, setting off a chain reaction crash involving all five.
One fatality has been confirmed. Several others were transported to the hospital for various injuries.
