Madison County students will soon have the opportunity to attend George Mason University (GMU) for their post-secondary education through a simplified admission process.
Next month, the school board is anticipated to approve an agreement enrolling the school division in GMU’s Direct Admissions Program. The program is a partnership between the university and local high schools to offer admission to high-achieving students. Students must have at least a 3.25 GPA, show English language proficiency and meet other specific criteria. For example, students who apply to computer science and engineering majors must have completed four years of high school math courses including one course more advanced than Algebra II. They must also have a minimum 550 math SAT or 24 math ACT score or achieved grades of B or higher in all high school math courses.
Students applying to the university through the direct admissions program enjoy a simplified application and admissions process.
“This is a great opportunity for our students,” Madison County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anna Graham said. “This may be a confidence booster to a kid who wasn’t quite sure they wanted to apply.”
The school board will vote on the partnership agreement next month.
