A Madison Supervisor has announced his intention to seek election to the House of Delegates.

On Sunday morning, board of supervisors chairman Clay Jackson announced his intention to enter into the Republican House of Delegates Primary. Last week, Del. Nick Freitas announced that he would not be seeking reelection, opting to instead endorse political newcomer and Orange County resident Karen Hamilton for the Republican nomination. Hamilton is married to former Republican candidate and current acting administrator of FEMA Cameron Hamilton.
“You’ve never had to ask Karen to fight for what she believes; she’s always done it,” Freitas said. “I think she’ll be an incredible representative.”
In a social media post, Jackson, who was first elected to the Madison County Board of Supervisors in 2011, said he hopes to bring “fiscal responsibility, common sense legislating and increased representation to our communities at the state level.” He will take on Hamilton in the June primary, that is if he can obtain the 125 signatures required by 5 p.m. Thursday. Jackson was at the stockyard Monday morning collecting signatures and at a Main Street location during the afternoon.

The 62nd District contains all of Greene and Madison counties, plus portions of Culpeper and Orange counties. Sara Ratcliffe of Greene County has submitted the required signatures to run for the House of Delegates seat as a Democrat.
