A Locust Grove man is facing multiple assault and battery charges following an incident in Lake of the Woods.
On Sunday, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a residence in Locust Grove for an assault in progress. According to law enforcement, deputies encountered the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Dexter Manning of Locust Grove. While a deputy attempted to deescalate the situation, Manning allegedly assaulted a Lake of the Woods Security Officer. Law enforcement said Manning then tried to grab a piece of equipment from the deputy’s vest, prompting the deputy to attempt to detain Manning. Manning allegedly broke free and continued to resist, leading to a taser application after which time he was taken into custody. During the arrest, Manning allegedly spat in the face of a deputy.
Manning has been charged with two counts of felony assault on law enforcement; misdemeanor assault and battery and misdemeanor assault and battery of a family member. He is being held at the Central Virginia Regional Jail. He is expected to appear in Orange County General District Court in January.
