Gordonsville Town Manager resigns effective Oct. 2

Relocating to Williamsburg

Anthony C. Schienschang

The Town of Gordonsville will soon be seeking a new manager.

Last week, town manager Anthony C. Schienschang, II announced his resignation, approximately 13 months after beginning his role. Prior to being named the town manager, he was the Town of Orange Economic Development Manager and was employed by the Orange County Department of Social Services.

Schienschang said his resignation is due to an impending relocation to Williamsburg. The town manager is required to live within 25 miles of Gordonsville.

In a letter to residents, Schienschang said he has enjoyed his time with the town. During his tenure, he said there have been “many much-needed changes in staffing, policy and operations.”

“I sincerely hope that these changes will move Gordonsville forward in terms of service and efficiency for our residents and customers,” he wrote. “I also hope that the fair and consistent application of town policies and ordinances will encourage the people of Gordonsville to take a more proactive role in their responsibilities as citizens. Join a board, volunteer and vote. It’s the best way to make a difference in your community and Gordonsville needs you.”

Schienschang thanked town council members for their hard work, calling them “dedicated,” and stating their willingness to work together “should stand as an example to other small towns in Virginia.” His biggest thanks, however, was to the town staff who he said are outstanding public servants.

Schienschang’s last day will be Friday, Oct. 2. The town council is expected to announce an interim manager during the Sept. 29 council meeting.
