Gordonsville man dies in two-vehicle crash

Accident occurred Wednesday on Rt. 33

An elderly Gordonsville man has died as the result of a two-vehicle crash in Orange County.

According to Virginia State Police, the accident occurred Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 3:40 p.m. on Rt. 33, Spotswood Trail, near Rt. 645, Magnolia Road. A 2013 Ford E-150 was traveling east on Rt. 33 when it crossed a double solid yellow centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Police said the impact caused the tractor-trailer to run off the roadway and collide with a fence.

The driver of the Ford, Arthur Stern, 82, of Gordonsville died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 51-year-old male from Orleans, Ontario was not injured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts. As of Friday the crash remains under investigation. The accident closed Rt. 33 for several hours.
