Resident Robert Reid passes away

Etlan residents are coming together to give a friend and neighbor a worthy goodbye.

Robert Reid

Robert Reid passed away earlier this week. Reid, who suffered from epilepsy, spent his time doing odd jobs and could often be found on the porch of the Little Country Store. Melony Myers said he would offer to take out the trash, help fill the cooler and load and unload supplies. She said he was friendly and kind to everyone, greeting customers.

“He always said ‘good morning, ma’am,’ or when I was going to run errands, he would always say, ‘be safe in your travels,’” Myers said. “I’m going to miss that so much.”

Myers said Reid helped her, the store customers and his neighbors in any way he could. Because of that generosity, Myers said it only makes sense to help Reid have a fitting funeral.

Kylie McCoy has created a fundraiser to assist with Reid’s services. She said he was her neighbor up the road.

“Everybody who lives in Etlan is like family so Robert was a big part of it,” McCoy said. “He was known for always being one of the guys that would sit on the front porch of the Little Country Store, but once people got to know him, they found out he was so much more than that.”

McCoy said Reid would not only help out at the store, but would help anybody in the area that needed it.

“He would sit on that porch and wave at each car he knew that would go by,” she said. “To anybody that stopped at the store, he would always greet them.”

McCoy said she started the fundraiser so everyone who knew Reid could come together and pitch in for his funeral expenses.

“Robbie meant a lot to the people in Etlan so I’m extremely grateful my small community could come together,” she said.

In less than 24 hours, the fundraiser has generated more than $1,000. Anyone wishing to donate can do so online at http://spot.fund/3qf86fbsc.
