A Culpeper man is behind bars after a multi-agency response that included a reverse 911 call.

According to law enforcement, on Monday, Aug. 4 at approximately 2:47 p.m. a Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office Deputy requested assistance during a traffic stop that concluded in Orange County. Deputy Booth had attempted to stop a reckless driver on Rt. 522. During the encounter, the passenger, Howard V. Settle, 44 of Culpeper, fled the scene on foot. He had an active warrant for his arrest on felony probation charges.
While Orange County Deputies were en route, citizens reported Settle attempting to enter a vehicle at a gas pump at E.V. Baker’s Store. The attempt was unsuccessful and Settle fled into the fields behind the store.
Units from Orange and Culpeper deployed drones and K-9s to search for Settle along with assistance from the Fairfax County Police Helicopter Division. As part of the search, a reverse 911 call went out to homes in the affected area. It was that call that led an Orange County resident to see the suspect in his yard. Settle was taken into custody and transferred to the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.
