Crews respond to Barboursville brush fire

Burns approximately 80 acres

A brush fire burned approximately 80 acres in Barboursville last week.

On Friday, Jan. 23, during the afternoon hours crews responded to a brush fire in the area of Ridgeway Drive. Due to winds and dry vegetation, the fire quickly grew. Barboursville Volunteer Fire Company crews with assistance from neighboring agencies worked to stop the fire’s spread and protect areas in imminent danger. The fire burned approximately 80 acres before being fully contained at 7 p.m.

No buildings were lost and no injuries were reported. Assistance was given by the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company; Orange Volunteer Fire Company; County of Orange Fire and EMS; Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Company; Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department; Dyke Volunteer Fire Company; Greene County Emergency Services; Stony Point Volunteer Fire Company; Earlysville Volunteer Fire Company; Madison County Volunteer Fire Company; Rapidan Volunteer Fire Department; Trevillians Volunteer Fire Department and the Virginia Department of Forestry.
