Orange County receives new grant for airport hangar

Federal funding announced by Warner, Kaine

Orange County has been awarded a grant for construction of a hangar at the airport.

Last week, Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced $21.3 million in federal funding to support infrastructure improvements at 10 Virginia airports. Included among the awards is $750,000 for the Orange County Airport.

The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration Airport Infrastructure Grant Program, made possible the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“We are thrilled to announce this funding for Virginia’s airports,” the senators said. “This investment is a major win for Virginia’s travelers and communities and will help to ensure our airports are safer, more efficient, and ready to meet growing demand in the years to come.”

In Orange County, the grant funds will be used to construct a new T-Hangar for airplane storage. According to the airport capital improvement plan documents, construction of the hangar is estimated at $1.2 million. The county currently owns 10 T-Hangars and 19 tie-down spots at the airport for use by aircraft based at or visiting the airport. In addition, the Tracey Corporation owns 18 T-Hangars for lease to private citizens and businesses. Approximately 40 aircraft are based at the airport.
