Softball
The Lady Mountaineers are off to a rocky start this season. The girls fell to Orange 16-0 in the season opener, followed by a 16-2 loss to Williams Monroe, 21-0 loss to East Rockingham and 10-0 loss to Fluvanna. The girls kicked off this month with a loss to William Monroe 17-1 April 1, followed by a 34-3 loss to Central (Woodstock) April 8. Last week, the girls fell 17-2 against East Rockingham and 17-0 against Page. It was a narrow loss Tuesday, 10-9 against Stonewall Jackson. The team was scheduled to host Rappahannock Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will host Strasburg Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Baseball
The start of the baseball season has been a mixed bag for the Mountaineers. The team started the season with an 11-6 win over the Hornets in Orange County, but fell to William Monroe at home days later, 10-0. The boys lost to East Rockingham 4-0 and Fluvanna 9-1 to finish the month. April kicked off with an 8-5 loss at William Monroe followed by a 13-6 loss at home against Central (Woodstock) and a 4-1 loss at home against East Rockingham. Last week, the team picked up momentum, winning against Page 7-5. William Dickey had a grand slam. The Mountaineers kept up the pace, beating Stonewall Jackson Tuesday 12-0. The team was scheduled to host Rappahannock Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and welcome Strasburg to Madison Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer season got underway last month with a 2-0 loss against Fluvanna, followed by a 2-0 loss against William Monroe. The girls ended the month with a 2-2 tie in a rematch against Fluvanna before falling to Central (Woodstock) on the road April 8, 1-0. The team rallied, beating Page 5-0 April 11 and Stonewall Jackson April 15 3-0. The team was scheduled to host Rappahannock Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Strasburg Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Boys Soccer
The Mountaineers lost the first three games of the season–8-0 against Fluvanna March 20, 5-0 against Fluvanna again March 27 and 3-2 against Central (Woodstock) April 8. This week, the boys beat Stonewall Jackson Tuesday 2-0. The team is scheduled to host William Monroe Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Page April 21 at 5:30 p.m. before an April 22 7 p.m. game at Strasburg.
Track and Field
The outdoor track season began last month with the Fluvanna Invitational. The girls 4×800 meter relay team finished third, the score for the girls. For the boys, Evan Roberts finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.52. De’Avis Porter finished second in the discus with a distance of 132–1.
The following week, the teams participated in the Page Valley Invitational. Adam Johnson finished third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43:61. Porter placed first in the discus with a distance of 134-10 and first in the shot put with a distance of 45-5.5. For the girls, Brighton Johnston finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06.18. The girls 4×800 meter relay team finished first with a time of 11:27.42.
The teams then headed to Louisa April 9 for the mini-invite. Roberts placed first in the boys 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.60 and first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:31.17. Adam Johnson finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.54 and second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.32. Porter finished first in the discus with a distance of 132-8 and second in the shot put with a distance of 45-1. For the girls, Victoria Weakley finished third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 20.09.
Next up is a meet in Quicksburg April 23 followed by the second annual Rock N’ Run The Valley Invitational in Elkton April 25.
