Crash results in fatality, road closure

UTV struck by vehicle while crossing U.S. 29

A fatal crash closed U.S. 29 in Madison County Wednesday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, a two-vehicle crash occured at 3:30 p.m. May 27 in the 3700 block of U.S. 29-Seminole Trail just north of Rt. 662-Shelby Road. According to law enforcement, a UTV was crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. 29 when it was struck by a Subaru Crosstrek. The driver of the UTV died at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Due to the accident, U.S. 29 was closed for hours with traffic diverted to Shelby Road to Rt. 231 to Fishback Road. It was reopened at 6:15 p.m.
