Orange County Deputies were dispatched to Meadows Farms Golf Course in Locust Grove Sept. 2 after the overnight thefts of two gas-powered UMAX vehicles. The Yamaha-made utility vehicles come standard with a cargo bed and retail for more than $11,000 new. A similar cart was reported stolen from the golf course in early August.

Following an investigation, Jeffrey L. Smith, 36, of Locust Grove was arrested and changed with two felonies of stealing a motor vehicle valued at $1,000 or more and one misdemeanor of destruction of property. An additional warrant of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was served.

Smith is being held at Central Virginia Regional Jail and is expected to appear in Orange County General District Court Sept. 12. Both UMAX vehicles were recovered.
