Vote no to referendum

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Just Vote No! On April 21, there is a currently scheduled referendum vote on redistricting in the state of Virginia. This redistricting referendum being proposed by Governor Spanberger and the Democrat controlled state house is not fair. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary says being fair is free from self-interest, prejudice, or favoritism. Just over five years ago, the voters of Virginia passed a constitutional amendment to create a bipartisan commission to restore fairness as well as transparency. That bipartisan commission created the current district map, 6-5 in favor of the Democrats. The new map would be changed to 10-1 in favor of the Democrats. In essence, we in the rural counties and communities would lose our voting voices. Is this free from self-interest? Is this free from favoritism? Absolutely not!

We, the citizens of Virginia, need to stand up and a vote NO on this redistricting referendum. We need to vote NO to protect our vote and our right to be heard.

Please get out and vote NO. Election Day for the voting on this referendum currently scheduled for April 21. Early in-person voting on this most important issue begins Friday, March 6 at the Registrar’s Office. You will need to bring a form of identification to cast your ballot. If you are unable to vote in-per- son either early or on April 21, please request the application to vote by absentee ballot (from the Registrar’s Office).
