The Game’s Afoot in Barboursville

Four County Players present Ludwig whodunnit

The game is afoot in Barboursville this holiday season.

Beginning Friday, Four County Players will present “The Game’s Afoot Or Holmes for the Holidays,” by Ken Ludwig. The play takes place in December 1936 with Broadway star William Gillette, admired worldwide for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, having invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. When one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in the isolated house of tricks and mirrors turn dangerous. It is up to Gillette himself, embodying the persona of Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

“The Game’s Afoot” is presented through an arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French. The local production stars John Rabasa, Lark Lucente, Johnny Butcher, Devynn Thomas, Devin Walsh, Emily Hemmingson, Linda Zuby and Christine Thalwitz with support from John Baker, Meg Hoover and Katterina Sparrer.

Derby Thomas serves as director with Wendy Novicoff as producer. Michael Kneller is production stage manager with Paige Campbell Johns as assistant stage manager. Larry Friedland serves as the fight choreographer with Edward Warwick White as intimacy coordinator. Amy Goff is costume designer with hair and makeup designer Stephanie Kowalczyk and scenic designers Pete Davies and Mary Speed. Davies also serves as lead carpenter with Speed as scenic painter. Lighting designer and technical engineer is David Hutchins with Kate Hutchins as sound designer. Meg Hoover serves as the properties designer with Warwick White as set dressing designer. Theater operations manager is Jennifer Phelps, production manager and marketing director is Warwick White, assistant production manager is Devynn Thomas and shop and build supervisor is Nicholas Edelman.

“The Game’s Afoot” will be performed Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Nov. 21 – Dec. 13 with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 23 – Dec. 14.. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and $16 for children 12 and under. All Friday tickets are $12.
