“Sweeney Todd” on the Barboursville stage

Shows start Friday at 4CP

The demon barber of Fleet Street has made his way to Barboursville.

Beginning Friday, Four County Players will present “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; A Musical Thriller,” by Stephen Sondheim. Sweeny Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 19th century London seeking vengeance against the judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett. Todd opens a new barber practice above her pie shop and his blood thirst inspires a new ingredient in her meat pies which the people of London can’t get enough of. “Sweeny Todd” has shocked and delighted audiences around the world for decades and now it comes to the Four County stage.

The local production stars Ken Wayne, Holly Breivik, Andrew Vanderbilt, Virginia Garey, Leighton Carter, George Cohen, Max Bulinski, Kristen Scott Bell, Ethan Mitchell and Tim Carlson with support from ensemble members Nour Bahri, Tim Carlson, Sara Harkrader, Sarah Insch, Jaime Kurtz, Marissa Lahr, Hannah Loeb, Savannah Lunger, Alex Mitchell, Jake Moore, Brian Moynihan, Marc Schindler, Karen Shipley, Jeremiah Small, Meghan Wallace, Tom Wallace, Collin Williams, Sydney Witucki, Scott Zetlan and David Zuby.

Edward Warwick White serves as director and choreographer with music direction by Paulius Sinkora and vocal direction by Kate Lambert. Tres Wells is the producer. Katie Hutchins is production stage manager with Karen Schlicht as assistant stage manager. Larry Friedland serves as the fight choreographer. Amy Goffman is costume designer with hair and makeup designer Kristen Franklin Heiderstadt and scenic designer Mary Speed. Chad Sokolowski and Michael Kneller are lead carpenters. The lighting designer is Steven Reid  with David Hutchins as sound designer and engineer. Hannah Vidaver serves as the properties designer with John Baker and Michael Kneller as special effects designers. Theater operations manager is Jennifer Phelps, production manager and marketing director is Warwick White, assistant production manager is Devynn Thomas and technical director is Nicholas Edelman. The band is composed of Paulius Sinkora, Katy Hall, Ben Eisenberg, Cara Lundgren-Stowe, Becca Bauer, Amelia Camacho, Paul Fritz and Tres Wells.

“Sweeney Todd” will be performed Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. March 6-28 with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. March 8-29. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for seniors and students. All Friday tickets are $12. This show contains content suitable only for adults including depictions of death, murder, physical violence, cannibalism, sexual content (including assault) and strong adult language. This production is rated R and is not recommended for children. Accordingly, no children’s tickets will be sold.

“Sweeny Todd” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
