The Culpeper Branch of the NAACP, which also serves Madison and Rappahannock counties, will host a program in commemoration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday Monday, Jan. 19 at noon. The event will take place in the auditorium of Eastern View High School, located at 16332 Cyclone Way in Culpeper.
The guest speaker for the event will be Patricia Hunter-Jordan, president of the NAACP Hanover County Branch in Virginia. The Hanover County branch has received national recognition for its work in advocacy, community outreach, communications, voter registration, educational workshops, and public forums focused on racial justice and economic equity.
Musical performers include local artists Eve Russell, who will sing the National Anthem, and Tyechia Robinson, who will lead the singing of the anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by James Weldon Johnson. The Eastern View High School ROTC will conduct a Presentation of Colors.
Pastor Garry M. Brown of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Locust Grove will deliver the invocation, and Kaleb Hackley, president of the NAACP Culpeper Branch, will present the organization’s 2026 Legacy Award.
NAACP Culpeper hosts a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday commemoration annually, offering music and inspirational remarks as well as remembrances of Dr. King’s life and legacy. This year’s event has been organized by Dr. Adrian Sledge, pastor of GOT 2 MOVE Church and chair of the branch’s Community Engagement & Economic Development Committee. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.
NAACP Culpeper regularly meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 pm. Meetings are typically held in the Culpeper Business Center on Lovers Lane, where the branch office is located.
