The Madison Minors Softball Team is home from Tennessee.
The Little League All-Star Softball Team of 8-10 year-olds spent days in Clarksville at the Tournament of Champions for the Southeast Region. The tournament is the highest level of play for the age group and includes teams from Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.
The 12-member team was named the District 14 Champions last month in Culpeper, advancing to the state tournament in Bedford earlier this month. The girls played six games at the tournament, outsourcing opponents 51-30 and finishing in the top two.
In Tennessee, the girls had two tough losses to Georgia and South Carolina, but claimed victory over Tennessee, 13-4, finishing fifth overall.
League officials said the tournament was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the girls and their families, one that they’ll never forget. Through fundraising including the sale of raffle tickets at the Madison County Fair, the team was able to meet its $12,000 goal and pay for hotel rooms, travel expenses, tournament shirts, meals and arcade games at Dave and Busters during the trip.
“For your donations, support, encouragement and raffle ticket sales we are grateful,” officials said.
The girls are already looking forward to next year, taking home with them lessons they can work on in the offseason.
