Two teens charged with the murder of their newborn will have their case heard by an Orange County Grand Jury next week.

Last fall, Sofia Elizabeth Dyson, 19, and James Allen Matthew Brown, now 20, of Locust Grove, were charged in the death of an infant. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported it was made aware of the infant’s death in mid-November, but further investigation revealed the child had been born at home July 27 and killed immediately after. The baby was disposed of in a trashcan in the parking lot of a local retailer.

Dyson faces a first degree murder charge along with concealing a dead body. She was also originally charged with two counts of willfully defiling a dead body, but those were nol prossed. Brown faces two charges–willfully defiling a dead body and concealing a dead body. An additional charge of being a principle to first degree murder was initially filed, but dismissed and two counts of willfully defiling a dead body were nol prossed.
Both Dyson and Brown have been in custody at the Central Virginia Regional Jail since their arrests.
The Orange County Grand Jury meets May 19 at 9:30 a.m.
