Horse perishes in Gordonsville barn fire

Four ponies rescued

A horse has died as the result of a barn fire in Gordonsville.

On Tuesday, career and volunteer units from Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to a barn fire in the 6900 block of Louisa Road in Gordonsville. Crews were able to contain the fire less than an hour after arriving on scene, but the barn was deemed a total loss.

Four ponies were evacuated by bystanders. One horse was located deceased. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not appear suspicious. Albemarle was assisted by the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company (GVFC).

The barn fire marks the second in two weeks for Gordonsville. The GVFC responded to a barn fire Oct. 14 in the 7000 block of S. Spotswood Trail.
