Hey Sugar Sugar

New ice cream shop opens in the Town of Madison

There’s a new ice cream shop in town.

Hey Sugar Sugar opened earlier this month at 1171 N. Main Street in the Town of Madison. The ice cream shop offers hand-dipped ice cream, banana splits, smoothies, sundaes, snow cones and more. Samantha Hilton said she started the business because she loves ice cream.

“There is no better dessert than ice cream,” she said.

At first, Hilton was going to start her business in a mobile ice cream trailer, but decided Madison needed a good ice cream shop. Over the course of several months, Hilton and her husband, Josh, worked to renovate the space next to Piedmont Deli and meet local and state regulations.

For their ice cream, Hilton said she wanted to bring the best she could find to Madison. She ultimately chose a Michigan-based company for her hand-dipped ice cream. The company offers 74 flavors. Hilton currently offers 12, but plans to rotate flavors every few weeks. On the menu currently are banana pudding, apple crisp, amaretto cherry, carolina peach, vanilla, chocolate, cowtippin, strawberry cheesecake, butter pecan, peanut butter brownie and playdough.

“Right now, everyone loves the flavors we have picked out,” Hilton said. “We went through 26 gallons of ice cream in our first week.”

In addition to hand-dipped ice cream, Hey Sugar Sugar also offers soft serve. The soft serve comes from Australia and is 100% vanilla along with Belgian chocolate. There is also a sugar-free vanilla option that is diabetic-friendly.

In addition to hand-dipped and soft serve icecream, the shop also offers sundaes, banana splits, snow cones, milkshakes, smoothies, soda floats, parfaits and homemade lemonade. Hilton plans to add additional items in the future including pies, cobbler, popcorn, candy, cotton candy, sherbert, Italian ice and seasonal items.

Hey Sugar Sugar is currently open Tuesday through Thursday, 12-7 p.m., Saturday 12-8 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

“As long as Madison keeps supporting our new ice cream shop, we will be open all winter,” Hilton said.
