Fourth of July activities abound Thurs-Sat.

Orange, Madison, Gordonsville hosting firework events

Locals will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate America’s Independence this weekend.

On Thursday, July 3, Orange County Parks and Recreation will host its annual Playin’ in the Park Independence Celebration. Held at Booster Park, the event offers free family-friendly entertainment and of course, fireworks. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. Orange County High School Football will be accepting donations for parking.

Live music will be provided by the Yurasits Family and Dave Goodrich with a touch-a-truck event. Multiple food vendors will be on-site including Barbara’s Soul Food, Buffalo Wild Wings, B-Radd & Honey, R U Freak’n Hungry, Fabulous Foods, Kona Ice of Culpeper, The Dreamsicle Lemonade and Rita’s Ice and Custards of Locust Grove. Fireworks will take place at dark.

Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Alcohol is prohibited. Pets must be on-leash. Parking is limited; arrive early.

The holiday fun continues Friday with Madison County’s annual fireworks show. The free event, sponsored by Madison County and Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges’ Graves Mountain Charitable Fund, will be held at Graves Mountain July 4 with pony rides, craft vendors, kettle corn, donuts, ice cream and funnel cakes 4-8 p.m. Live music will be provided by The Unsuitables at Sycamore Picnic Pavillion which will feature a picnic dinner menu. A BBQ buffet dinner will be served at the Farmhouse Restaurant in the Main Lodge 5-7 p.m.; reservations are required, call (540) 923-4231. 

Fireworks will begin at approximately 9-9:15 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. The Madison County Volunteer Fire Company will be accepting donations for parking.

On Saturday, Gordonsville’s Main Street will celebrate Independence Day. The Gordonsville Ice House, Southwest Mountain Vineyards, Renewal by Andersen, Blue Ridge Bank, Hollymead House and Merrie Mill Farm and Vineyard will present a parade and fireworks. The parade will be held at 9 a.m. along Main Street, starting from East of Maui before making a left on Market Street and heading back to the fire station. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. at the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company. Gates will open at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available at the baseball stand.
