Football season gets underway in Madison, Orange

Hornets, Mountaineers suffer season opening losses

The Hornets fell to the Indians 20-8 Thursday night in the first home game of the season. Elliott Murphy led Powhatan, rushing for 117 yards and throwing for 143 years with a completion rate of 84.6%. Orange will host King George Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers kicked off their season with a visit to the Knights. Buckingham beat Madison 31-23 Friday. This Friday will mark the first home game of the season with Madison hosting Western Albemarle Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. The game also marks the induction of the first class of the Madison County High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductees will be honored during halftime with a special dinner held Saturday evening.
