Board relocates meeting to Hornet Sports Center

A larger crowd is expected at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting necessitating a venue change.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors will host its regular meeting March 24 at 5 p.m. at the Hornet Sports Center at Orange County High School. The meeting will be a joint meeting with the county planning commission and while some regular business will be conducted, the main focus will be the Joshua Falls-Yeat Transmission Line Project.

The project, one of three proposed by joint venture Valley Link and approved by regional transmission organization PJM Interconnection, would build approximately 115 miles of 765kV transmission lines from Campbell County to Culpeper County. Preliminary routes cross up to nine localities, including Orange County. At 765kV, the transmission lines are the highest voltage, highest capacity transmission line type available in the country and would include structures between 135 and 160 feet tall requiring approximately 200 feet of right-of-way.

Valley Link representatives will attend the meeting Tuesday and make a formal presentation regarding the project. Orange County residents will have the opportunity to speak during public comment. Those wishing to speak will sign-up via a sheet in the lobby upon arrival. Speakers will have up to two minutes to provide remarks. This time may be increased or decreased depending on the number of speakers. Written comments can also be submitted to the Orange County Administration Office prior to the meeting in-person, by email to lsmith@orangecountyva.gov or by mail to P.O. Box 111, Orange, VA 22960.

For those who cannot attend the meeting in person, it will be livestreamed on the county’s website, https://www.orangecountyva.gov/525/Agendas-Minutes.
