The holiday-themed festivities continue this weekend with a variety of local events occurring in Madison and Orange counties.
Up first, Gordonsville United Methodist Church will host a Christmas family night featuring “The Polar Express,” Friday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. Bring a blanket and wear comfy Christmas pajamas. The church is located at 407 N. Main Street in the Town of Gordonsville.
On Saturday, Perfectly Piedmont, the annual craft market sponsored by the Literacy Council of Madison County, will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Waverly Yowell Elementary School Gymnasium. Local vendors will offer handmade and locally-grown goods for purchase. Support non-profit organizations, artisans and small farmers. Other events Saturday in Madison include the Friends of the Library open house at 2:30 p.m. at the Madison County Library. Members of the high school speech team will perform their competition pieces. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the speech team. Santa’s Workshop will be held 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Madison Presbyterian Church, 1236 Fishback Road, Madison. Enjoy hot chocolate, crafts, snacks and a visit with Santa at this free, family-friendly event.
In the evening, enjoy S’mores with Santa at Hoover Ridge, 5-7:30 p.m. The holiday light show spectacular will start at 5:30 p.m. with Santa arriving at approximately 6 p.m. for a special story and visits with children. Families are welcome to sit by the fire and enjoy s’mores following their Santa visit.
In Orange, stop by the Orange County Fairgrounds for breakfast with Santa Saturday 9-11 a.m. The buffet is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. The first 250 kids will receive a gift from Santa and have the opportunity to make a Christmas craft. A holiday market will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with live music 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fairgrounds are located at 14500 Old Gordonsville Road, Orange.
Over at the Orange Train Depot, Santa will be available for photos 12-4 p.m. Outside there will be artisan craft and baked good vendors. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase.
The 41st annual Singing Christmas Tree, a local tradition, will be held at Orange Baptist Church Saturday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. Admission is free; arrive early to guarantee seating. Childcare is provided for children 3 and under.
