Earlier this month we brought you the story of Willow Rudolph and her farmstand, Weeping Willow’s, located in Wolftown. Now, we regret to inform you it’s been closed–due to theft. Several times in the past week, folks have stopped by the pink and white farmstand, not to purchase goods, but to take them without so much as a glance at the sign describing payment options or a consideration of making a donation.
Willow operated her farmstand by donation with folks opting to pay what they desired for the items, which included produce and homemade baked goods. By no means did “by donation” mean free. The money was then used by Willow to help pay for nursing school.
With the semester starting and her garden winding down, Willow said she’s unable to keep pouring her time, energy and resources into something that has started to feel discouraging. We wish her the best and would like to remind all opting to shop at our local farmstands to do just that–shop. Stuff money in the box, send a payment on Venmo, or use whatever other means the stand owner requests. Things like seeds, chicken feed, ingredients and fertilizer cost money. Support your local farmers and producers. We need them.
