Mountaineer Sports – Week of May 1

Madison County High School Sports Updates

Softball

The Lady Mountaineers lost two at home, falling to Clarke April 25, 12-1 and Luray Tuesday 17-7. The team will visit Central (Woodstock) Friday at 6 p.m.

Baseball

The boys split two, falling to Clarke at home April 25, 4-3, but beating Luray at home Tuesday, 9-6. The team will play Central (Woodstock) Friday at 6 p.m.

Girls Soccer

The girls won two, beating Clarke on the road April 25, 2-1 before beating Luray at home Tuesday 3-1. The team will host Central (Woodstock) Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Soccer

The team won two, beating Clarke at home April 25, 1-0 and Luray on the road Tuesday 4-1. The boys will travel to Central (Woodstock) Friday for a 7 p.m. game.

Track

The Mountaineers competed in a quad meet in Quicksburg April 23. For the boys, Adam Johnson finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.72. Evan Roberts finished first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:56.74. Johnson finished first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.69. The 4×100 meter relay team finished third with a time of 49.42. The 4×400 team finished third with a time of 3:57.67 and the 4×800 team second with a time of 9:31.67. Foster finished first in the high jump with a height of 5-8 and James Harris second with a height of 5-4. Harris finished third in the long jump with a distance of 17-5.5. De’Avis Porter finished first in the discus with a distance of 130-5 and in the shot put with a distance of 44-8.

For the girls, Lily Smoot finished second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:06.04. The 4×400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 4:37.45. Lehanna Carpenter finished second in the high jump with a height of 4-8. Victoria Weakley finished first in the long jump with a distance of 14-10. Ava Hawkins finished first in the discus with a distance of 78-5, Chloe Rasado second with 69-9 and Tylee Coates third with 69-4. Coates finished second in the shot put with a distance of 25-3.

The teams traveled to Elkton for the second annual Rock N’ Run Valley Invitational April 25. For the boys, Evan Roberts placed second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:28.83. De’Avis Porter finished third in the discus with a distance of 134-7 and second in the shot put with a distance of 44-8. 

For the girls, Lehanna Carpenter finished third in the high jump with a height of 4-8. 

The teams were scheduled to compete in the Page Home Meet Wednesday after presstime, followed by the Dogwood Track Classic Friday.
