Library jar fundraiser earns more than $300

Louise Penny declared favorite mystery/thriller author

Louise Penny pulled ahead in the Friends of the Library quart jar fundraiser held last month at the Madison County Library. Penny earned $51 in tickets, beating Nancy Drew author Caroline Keene who received $26. 

The fundraiser yielded more than $340 for the library, which will utilize the funds to purchase more books. Votes were $1 each.

In addition to Penny and Keene, Hardy Boys author Frank Dixon, John Grisham, Tom Clancy and P.D. James each received $20 in votes; Gertrude Chandler Warner $18; David Baldacci $17; Janet Evanovitch, Kathy Reichs $13; Agatha Christie, Sue Grafton, $12; James Patterson $10; Stuart Woods $9; CJ Box $8; John Sanford $7; Douglas Preston and Lee Child $6; Robert Ludlum, Vince Flynn, Ruth Ware, Steven K. Smith, $3; Daniel Silva, Dick Francis $2 and Carl Hiassen and Geronimo Stilton $1. 

Four folks cast write-in votes for Laura Childs, Nora Roberts, Donald Sobel, Heming Mankell and Steve Berry; three Freida McFadden; two Tony Hillerman, Anne Hillerman and Ben Schott; two Harlen Coben and Stuart Gibbs; $1 Tania Del Rio, Lindsay Davis, Robert K. Parker, Lucy Score, James and Lee Burke, Philip Kerr and Elmore Leonard.
