RSA’s Clemons passes

Dies after brief illness

Longtime Rapidan Service Authority General Manager Tim Clemons passed away Wednesday following a brief illness.

According to a statement from Mountain View Nursing Home (MVNH) where he served as board chair, Clemons had spent several days in intensive care with septic pancreatitis before his family chose to bring him home Tuesday on hospice care. Tuesday night, approximately 60 MVNH staff and families sang at Clemons’ bedside. He was surrounded by family and friends through the night until his passing.

“Tim leaves a legacy larger than I can describe from Oak Grove Mennonite Church to Rapidan Service Authority to Mountain View and so much more,” the statement read. “We have no idea how we will fill the hole he leaves behind.”

In January, Clemons announced he would retire from RSA effective June 27. He spent his career in public utilities serving as a wastewater treatment operator for the City of Kissimmee, FL from 1978 to 1984. He was a sanitary systems operator for Reedy Creek Utility Company, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, before spending 12 years in wastewater for Collier County. He joined RSA as the assistant general manager in November 1999 before becoming the general manager in 2017.

Two weeks ago, he announced his retirement via LinkedIn saying it had been an enjoyable 48 years in the water and wastewater industry, 26 of which were spent with RSA. He said he worked with some outstanding people and thanked them for contributing to his career. He was looking forward to his next chapter.

Clemons is survived by his wife Julie of 47 years. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 16, 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. followed by a funeral service Wednesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. Services will be held at Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 563 Tom Johnston Road, Aroda.
