Helme named EMS chief

Fills role left vacant by Hillstrom's exit

Madison County has a new Emergency Medical Services leader.

Gavin Helme, Sr. has been hired as the new EMS Chief. Helme was previously the county’s emergency management coordinator and has been employed with Madison County since 2015. He was chosen for the chief position from among nine applicants. County supervisors conducted the final round of interviews during a special called meeting May 19.

Helme said he was thankful for the faith county officials have in him. He brings years of experience to the role and said he plans to use it.

“I’m proud to say EMS is healthy,” Helme said. “We have some agenda items for the next calendar year and won’t let up on our momentum.”

He said he’s a servant leader and enjoys collaborating with other officers.

“I consider it a real blessing to be able to work and live in the same community and serve my neighbors every day,” Helme said. “I take that very seriously.”

Helme fills the position left vacant by longtime chief Noah Hillstrom’s departure earlier this spring.
