Parades, ceremonies held

Local Veterans Day commemorations kicked off Saturday with the annual Town of Gordonsville Veterans Parade. Local businesses, organizations and bands traveled down Main Street, showing off their patriotic pride. On Monday, several schools honored veterans including Orange Elementary School which held a parade leading to the Orange American Legion’s Veterans Day ceremony. Speaker Col. Joe Martin encouraged veterans to find brotherhood in places like the legion and others to be a well-educated citizenry voting with service members in mind. On Tuesday, the Madison American Legion held its Veterans Day ceremony. Speaker Col. Charles Reinhold said that veterans not only serve in their respective branches, but also in the communities in which they live. “Our oath never expires,” he said.
