Hansen to discuss new book “My Dear Sister”

Focuses on Nathaniel Hawthorne and his sisters Elizabeth and Louisa

Kris Hansen, author of the new historical book “My Dear Sister: Nathaniel Hawthorne and His Sisters,” will host a special author talk at Revalation Vineyards on Friday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. The evening will offer guests an intimate look into the research and writing of her book, which focuses on the lives of famed American author Nathaniel Hawthorne and his sisters, Elizabeth and Louisa.

During the event, she will discuss the compelling and often-overlooked history of the Hawthorne sisters. Hansen will share insights from her extensive research process, detailing how she brought these 19th-century women to life. The talk will cover their complex relationship with their renowned brother, their individual ambitions, and their place in the literary world of New England.

“The story of Elizabeth and Louisa Hawthorne has been a footnote in literary history for far too long,” said Hansen. “My goal with My Dear Sister was to give these intelligent, complex women their own voice and allow them to step out from their brother’s long shadow. I’m excited to share their story, my research process, and some of the surprising discoveries I made along the way with the audience.”

The talk will be held at Revalation Vineyards, offering a beautiful setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains for an evening of literary and historical discussion. Wine and non-alcoholic verjus will be served. The event is free and open to the public (21+).
