Programs targeting Orange County’s youngest leaders will soon get a financial boost thanks to a new federal grant.
On Monday, 7th District Congressman Eugene Vindman announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1,788,958 to Orange County Public Schools to support Head Start programs. The school system offers both Head Start Preschool for children ages 3 and 4 and Early Head Start Preschool for ages 6 weeks to 3 years old. The federally-funded programs are offered at the Taylor Education Administration Complex and Gordon-Barbour and Locust Grove elementary schools. In addition to early childhood education, the programs offer nutrition and family support services to lower income families.
“As a dad, I know how important it is to give every child the opportunity to succeed,” Vindman said. “I’m proud to have helped secure this funding to expand access to Head Start and ensure more children have the strong foundation they need to reach their full potential.”
This isn’t the first time Vindman has helped to secure federal funding for Orange County schools. In February, he announced $850,000 to improve student safety and the quality of life for students at Gordon-Barbour Elementary School. The project includes adding 3,500 square feet for additional dining space and enclosing the exterior walkways connecting the school’s two annex buildings.
