Celebrating spring in Gordonsville

New festival embraces season

A new spring event is blooming in Gordonsville.

Timed with Historic Garden Week, Gordonsville in Bloom celebrates all things spring. The festival, which is a nod to the town’s previously held street festival, will feature vendors, activities and more along a portion of Main Street. This year’s event will have 19 booths including free activities such as a make it and take it bouquet bar and a growing station, information about community resources including upcoming summer programs and artisan and craft vendors as well as a selection of food vendors.

Currently confirmed to attend are Black Belt Success Academy; Carrie’s Soul Food Cafe on the Go; Critter’s Crafty Creations; Dad’s Awesome Grilling Sauce; DRH Boards; EpIC; Gee’s Bavarian Nutz; Gigi Rosy Designs, LLC; Gordonsville Municipal Airport;

Just Dogs; Lauren Higgins Photography; Madison County Parks & Recreation; Orange County Parks & Recreation; Partners 1st Credit Union; Patty’s Pierogies LLC; Spelled Ink; Team Fighting Fentanyl; Two Stitch Witches; Wells Craft; Westwind Flowers; Witch’s Brew Café and World’s Mini Bazaar.

At noon, Andrew McKnight and Beyond Borders will perform two sets. The band features founding Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Les Thompson, his wife Stephanie Thompson and Lisa Taylor. Their sound is described as beyond Appalachian, beyond blues and beyond folk. Their performance at the festival is supported in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts.

Main Street between Depot Street and Mayhugh Avenue will be closed to vehicles from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to create a pedestrian-only area. Through traffic will be detoured at High Street. Parking will be available along Main Street and at Preddy’s Funeral Home. The remaining roads in town will remain open to local traffic including festivalgoers, residents and visitors interested in shops, restaurants and other attractions.

“There will be tables and places to sit inside of the festival area or folks can bring a blanket and enjoy the grass in front of town hall,” Gordonsville Director of Community and Economic Development Anna Pillow said. “Everyone is encouraged to come out to enjoy the festival and the wonderful shops and restaurants in our historic downtown.”

Gordonsville in Bloom will be held rain or shine Saturday, April 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit https://www.townofgordonsville.org/events/gordonsville_in_bloom.php.
