Electrical failure at pump station creates possible sewage issue

It’s yet another sewage issue in Lake of the Woods.

On Wednesday, Rapidan Service Authority (RSA) officials notified the Lake of the Woods Association (LOWA) of a sewage leak at the small marina pump station B, located in the 1300 block of Lakeview Parkway. According to a statement from RSA, the pump station experienced an electrical failure causing an unknown quantity of sewage to possibly enter the neighborhood’s Main Lake. RSA staff immediately corrected the problem and placed lime on the affected ground as a precaution.

As with previous sewage issues which occurred in June and December, RSA said a sample was collected from the lake and transported to the lab for testing. In addition, the LOWA will collect water samples for lab testing from the area. In the meantime, the Main Lake Small Marina Cove has been closed to recreational contact.  The association said people and their pets should avoid contact with the water as well as any activities that may pose a risk of ingesting water at the Small Marina Cove in the Main Lake.
