Locust Grove man arrested in Spotsylvania bank robbery

Apprehended in Fredericksburg

A Locust Grove man has been arrested following a bank robbery in Spotsylvania County.

The incident occurred Feb. 8 at 11:15 a.m. According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, an employee of Truist Bank, located at 3600 Plank Road, called 911 to report a robbery. The employee stated a man came into the bank and demanded money. The employee complied with the demands and the man left with an undisclosed amount of money. According to law enforcement, the suspect did not display a weapon nor were any injuries reported. Witnesses described the man’s vehicle as a copper or orange truck.

Later that evening, a tip came into the sheriff’s office which was followed up on by the Spotsylvania Street Crimes Unit. The tip led investigators to a hotel in Fredericksburg. With assistance from the Fredericksburg Police Department, 45-year-old Lemar Gerald Dawson, 45, of Locust Grove was arrested and charged with robbery. He was reprimanded to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

An arraignment scheduled for Feb. 10 has been continued until March 19.
