Madison County Supervisors have once again confirmed their commitment to uphold the Second Amendment.
In 2019, the supervisors adopted a Second Amendment Preservation resolution upholding the U.S. and Virginia Constitutions which express the right to bear arms and opposes any law that would unconstitutionally restrict those rights. The sentiment was reaffirmed via resolution in 2020 after the Code of Virginia changed to grant localities the authority to regulate or prohibit the otherwise legal purchase, possession or transfer of firearms or ammunition.
Last Tuesday, the supervisors reaffirmed the 2019 and 2020 resolutions.
County attorney Hannon Wright said while the resolution is not an ordinance and therefore isn’t county law, “it’s an expression of county values and intent.”
